Dealing with rejection in lightweight ways

I’ve been on the waiting list for the Founder Institute for weeks. A few days ago they made the final decisions for the Denver 2010 class and I strangely got a “Welcome” email from one of the mentors. I say strangely because I was still on the waiting list and I hadn’t yet gotten officially accepted into the program. I investigated, found out I was on the bubble and got an email early this morning from the Founder Institute’s founder, Adeo Ressi, informing me the class was full, I hadn’t been accepted.

So I went on with my day, dealing with rejection in the lightweight way. (That line could fit somewhere snugly on Will Smith’s critically acclaimed 1997 album, “Big Willie Style.” But I digress…)

  • Delete the email, text message, voicemail
  • Take a deep breath
  • Now take another one
  • Think about how you fit into the world around you. Chances are you’re in good health with good fortune, be thankful for that.
  • Realize that other opportunities will present themselves and that there are a lot of roads that lead to the same place
  • Tell someone, vent a little bit.
  • Take a shower, bath or jump in a larger body of water. “Wash your sins away,” as some would say.

Have any other ways to deal with rejection lightly? Add to the list. Reblog or leave it in the comments.
