[On Screen] Students walking into the ATLAS building
[VO] The university realizes that times are changing. Journalism students need more of a well-rounded education. Regents are thinking of combing in the ATLAS program and the School of Journalism into a brand new School of Information.
The School of Information could make sense both financially and academically.
[On screen] Dean Paul Voakes: “In terms of all of the cutting-edge technical aspects, we see a wonderful opportunity with ATLAS.”
[Students working in ATLAS lab] [Voice over] But students are already branching out from those traditional tracks, and taking advantage of ATLAS programs to gain the technological skills crucial to their future careers. Of the 402 students enrolled in ATLAS’s Technology, Arts and Media program, 118 are journalism student. None of the students in today’s journalism programs will see the School of Information. For now, it’s up to them to round out their skill sets in addition to their traditional degrees.
